Post-processing 3D prints: Overview

Step 1: Sanding

Step 2: Priming

Step 3: Painting

Over 5 days, I turned a bunch of 0s and 1s into a Hunger Games Mockingjay pendant. I bought £15 worth of equipment and I still have a lot left. This has been a fun, learning experience. Since it is my birthday soon, I hope my parents will buy me my own 3D printer.

Post-processing 3D prints: Painting (Part 3)

Painting (Morning, 01/08/19)

Today, I completed the last post-processing step for my Hunger Games Mockingjay: Painting. To stay loyal to the film and the book, I painted it gold. I bought a relatively small bottle of paint (59ml) as I didn’t need much for this project.

I painted one side, then let it to dry, then painted the other side and let it dry. Then, I repeated this process to get 2 layers on each side.

After having done the large, flat areas, I used a smaller brush to paint the inside sides and the outer ring.

After finishing the painting, I hung it to a door with a paperclip. When it has dried, I’ll sand it slightly to smooth the paint.
